A Connected Gonzales is key to our city's future.
As Mayor, I will work to improve our roadways to reduce traffic congestion and streamline travel, especially along key areas like Burnside and Hwy 30. By reducing driveways and improving traffic flow, we can create safer and more efficient streets. With the proposed passenger rail stop in Gonzales, we can also expand opportunities for our residents to connect to larger cities while still living and working here. Additionally, creating a local public transportation system that serves all residents—from seniors to young families—will help reduce commuter traffic and enhance mobility. Together, we can build a more connected, inclusive, and prosperous Gonzales.
We can solve more than just congestion problems by implementing comprehensive planning that addresses roads, drainage, traffic flow, and beautification simultaneously. Just like Hwy 44 wasn’t built for future traffic needs, neither were the stormwater pipes beneath it. By streamlining driveways, improving drainage systems, and incorporating beautification efforts, we can create safer, more efficient roadways that are ready for the future. This holistic approach ensures our infrastructure not only handles today’s needs but also prepares Gonzales for tomorrow.
We will no longer leave money on the table. Gonzales must be in the room, part of the planning discussions, and actively securing federal funds like those available through the Infrastructure Bill. By making sure we are involved, we can tap into these opportunities to fund critical road, traffic, and infrastructure projects that will improve the future of our city.
Imagine a coalition that focuses solely on the section of Hwy 30 within Gonzales city limits, addressing traffic impacts and drainage. By funding key improvements, like placing culverts along Hwy 30, we could not only reduce congestion but also create room for additional lanes from I-10 to Burnside. This would improve traffic flow and enhance safety for everyone in Gonzales.
Let’s go even further. Imagine a 4-lane Hwy 30 that runs from Airline Highway to I-10—Federal Highway to Federal Highway. This kind of long-term planning ensures that our roads can handle future growth, reducing congestion and keeping Gonzales moving forward for years to come.
I will update the City-wide Master Transportation Plan to include Hwy 30/LA 44 corridor and explore a new I-10 interchange west of the City.
Improving connectivity isn’t just about traffic flow—it’s about public safety. By creating alternate routes that push through-traffic and commuters out to larger arteries, we can reduce congestion on local roads, making it safer for residents and emergency responders. Better-connectivity between major roads will ensure quicker response times and give our families safer, more efficient ways to get home.
With the upcoming passenger rail stop in Gonzales, we have an incredible opportunity to connect our residents to Baton Rouge and New Orleans while keeping jobs, services, and opportunities local. This rail connection will expand our horizons without taking us away from home. Additionally, we’ll look to incorporate multimodal transportation, which means providing a variety of transit options—like bike paths, pedestrian walkways, and public transit—that work together seamlessly. By ensuring our city is connected through multiple modes of transportation, we make it easier for everyone to access work, services, and recreation, no matter how they get around.
